  2. HCMS Math Approach 2016-2017 Math Block 65 minutes of math instruction Classes are set up in the following way Bell ringer Check homework Opening Lesson Closing activity 19 minutes of advisory 2 days a week of Khan Academy 1 day a week of library time 2 days of week of character activities

  5. E.L.A. Reading Vocabulary Writing Grammar Speaking and Listening Researching

  6. What is IQWST? A research based curriculum that aligns with NGSS. Covers each discipline: Physics, Chemistry, Life Science & Earth Science. Engages students in scientific practices as they experience, investigate and explain phenomena while learning core ideas of science. Builds understanding by connecting ideas across disciplines 6th – 8th grade.

  7. 7th Grade units Chemistry – How Can I Make New Stuff from Old Stuff? Life Science – What is Going on Inside Me? Physical Science – Why Do Some Things Stop While Others Keep Going? STEM activities and engineering challenges will also be included.

  8. Grading Hickory Creek Middle School has adopted the following guidelines for reporting grades for the 2016-17 school year. • 75% = Summative • 25% = Formative • Use of PowerSchool

Ways to stay connected… • Ask to see the student plannerThis is a life skill that will pay off now and for many years to come! • Have your student check the “Teacher Pages” • Check PowerSchool with your student! Seventh graders need to take the initiative in monitoring their own progress. • Email • Absent Work

  11. OrganizationSet aside time for your child to organize their materials.Check to make sure they have the needed supplies.

  12. Teach advocacy!Everyone’s ultimate goal is for the student to express what they need to be successful.Have your student practice this with the Team 7B teachers. We support students who speak for their education!
