  2. Definition • Definition: Examines the artist as a humanist----her common humanity by tracing how the individual imagination uses myths and symbols common to different cultures and times. • Example: Ring on your left ring finger usually symbolizes marriage.

Write a few sentences about what you think these quotes mean: • “Myth is fundamental, the dramatic representation of our deepest instinctual life, of a primary awareness of man in the universe, capable of many faces, on which many opinions and attitudes depend.” • “Myth is a story- some fact, some fiction- that, for various reasons, people regard as demonstrations of inner meaning of the universe, and human life.”
