Multiplication Accelerated Math Block 1
Array • An array represents a multiplication expression: • What name would you give this array? • How many are in this array? • The dimensions are its factors.
An array is an arrangement of objects in rows and columns. It is a representation of multiplication. • Multiplication is the process of finding the total number of items when given the number of groups and the number in each group. It is repeated addition. • A dimension is a measure of one direction. • A factor is a whole number that divides exactly into another number. It is the number you count by when you skip count.
A prime number is a number greater than 1 that has only two factors; 1 and itself. • A composite number is a number with more than two factors. • A square number is a number that results from multiplying a number by itself and is represented in an array that is the shape of a square.
The product is the total amount when the number of groups and number in a group are multiplied. It is the result when two factors are multiplied. • A multiplication combination is an expression of factors and their products. Example: 6 x 8 = 48
