  2. NEXT STESWP MEETING Tentatively set for: 23-25 June 2008

KEY CONSIDERATIONS • Avoid duplication of current activities / co-ordinate with Eurostat and other international organisations, in particular, UN agencies • Business and consumer opinion survey work and CLIs are undertaken by another forum with EC / CIRET • National accounts and trade statistics dealt with by other working parties serviced by STD

  4. POSSIBLE WORK OVER NEXT TWELVE MONTHS FLOWING FROM THIS MEETING • Completion of work of OECD / Eurostat task force on performing revisions analysis on STES • Presentation and dissemination of STES – focus on metadata, especially on national practices re linkage with data • Implementation of key recommendations in the OECD Presentation Handbook – 6-7 high priority themes, 3-4 key indicators • Implementation of revised classifications / backcasting • Seasonal adjustment – continue to piggyback on Eurostat guidelines, seek and provide views of non-EU OECD member countries + SA practices in NMEs

POSSIBLE WORK OVER NEXT TWELVE MONTHS FLOWING FROM THIS MEETING (cont.) • STES in non-member economies – focus on comparability of 3-4 key indicators (consult with NMEs) • Producer price indices for services (SPPIs) • Work with UNSD on development of international statistical standards – as required • Administrative data framework - update • [Infra-annual statistics on capital expenditure] – drop • ISP implementation – work with countries on implementation - if none, drop from agenda – and / or linkage with Eurostat work on services turnover

OTHER AREAS OF POSSIBLE FUTURE WORK SUGGESTED BY MEMBERS IN PREVIOUS YEARS • Graphical presentation of short-term statistics – recommended practices • Further work on short-term indicators for services ?? • Aggregation and comparison of geographic data • Recent developments in data validation techniques • Development of methods to estimate or forecast industrial production using BTS data • Current national practices in the confidentialising of short-term statistics

  7. AREAS OF POSSIBLE FUTURE WORK SUGGESTED BY MEMBERS IN PREVIOUS YEARS (CONT.) • Carry out PEEI type quality investigation for non-EU countries, one indicator at a time. Involves use of questionnaire to collect information on SA, coverage, sample size, non-response. OECD could extend existing studies recently done by Eurostat (IIP, Retail Trade) to non EU countries?
