  3. New Zealand • Very similar reasons to Canada and Australia. • Occasionally some that could not make a life in Australia, tried to make one in NZ.

  4. NZ • Like the others, agents pulled people to NZ. • Agents willing to sign people up for discounted fares.

Impact of Scots in New Zealand • Economically Scots were involved in creation of the country’s banking system, land ownership, religion of the colony and education too. • Scots created areas like Otago. • Some Scots put off the land the Maori people had lived in. • Occasional direct conflict between the Maris and the Pakeha (Europeans.)
