  4. PLAN/ACT The PLAN program helps 10th graders build a solid foundation for future academic and career success and provides information needed to address school districts’ high priority issues. It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options and make plans for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation years.

  5. PLAN/ACT • English 50 questions 30 minutes • Mathematics 40 questions 40 minutes • Reading 25 questions 20 minutes • Science 30 questions 25 minutes

  6. What do your scores mean? • Your scores are between 1 (lowest score) and 32 (highest score) • Composite score is simply the average of the English, Mathematics, Reading and Science Test scores • How do you compare with other students who took PLAN? • Next to your scores, you will find a percentage of students scoring at or below your score

Your Plans for High School and Beyond • Your High School Course Plans Compared to Core • 4 years of English • 3 years of Math • To include Algebra and Geometry and 1 beyond • 3 years of Science • To include General/Physical/Earth Science, Biology and Chemistry • 3 years of Social Studies • To include U.S. History and World History

Your Career Possibilities • Step 1: The World of Work Map • People: people you help serve, care for or sell things • Data: Facts, numbers, files, business procedures • Things: Machines, tools, living things and materials such as food, wood or metal • Ideas: Knowledge, insights and new ways of expressing something (with words, equations, music, etc) • Step 2: Your Results • Choose a Career Area having jobs you might like • Complete an interest inventory • Step 3: Exploring Career Options

  10. Building Your Skills • Back of score report provides some ideas for building your skills and knowledge in the different subject areas.

Checklist for Parents • Encourage your child to take challenging high school courses • Talk to your child about careers, colleges and life after high school • Establish a regular study time each day • Try to provide a good, quiet study setting • Discourage phone calls, visitors, TV and other distractions during study time • Talk to your child about what he/she is learning. Ask questions. Listen to the answers.

  13. Tips for a collegiate future Sophomore Year • Maintain good grades • Begin focusing on academic strengths • Take PLAN test • Get involved in Extra-Curricular activities & community service

Tips for a collegiate future Junior Year • Maintain good grades • Take more classes according to your interests • Take PSAT during the first semester • Take the ACT during second semester • Keep record of all activities for college application • Start looking at and visiting colleges • Research grade and class requirements • Begin determining a specific occupation

Course Selection for Junior Year • English 1 credit-English 11 • Social Studies-Economics and US History since 1945 • Math-1 credit advanced level math • Science-1 credit advanced level science • Physical Ed-0.5 credit EITHER junior or senior year • Elective credits-1.5 credits minimum to = 6 for year

  17. Tips for a collegiate future Senior Year • Maintain good grades for scholarships • Retake the ACT (October) if you think you can improve your score • Apply to colleges before November holidays • Look at scholarships and other sources of financial aid • Determine your college by May 1st

  18. Your Student’sHigh School Transcript • Legal Document • Individual meetings throughout years focus on academics and strengthening the transcript • Transcript shows: Cumulative GPA, Class Rank and lists courses with semester grades • This is required with college applications
