response to intervention
Response to Intervention

Response to Intervention (RtI) is the practice of providing high-quality instruction and interventions matched to student need (both academic and behavioral), monitoring progress frequently to make decisions about changes in instruction or goals, and applying child response data to important educational decisions.

response to intervention3
Response to Intervention
  • RtI must be viewed as a:
    • School-wide initiative
    • Bridge between regular and special education
    • Collaboration between schools and families
response to intervention4
Response to Intervention
  • RtI is a problem solving process that takes place at three levels:
    • At the child level
    • At the classroom/teacher level
    • At the programmatic/school level
response to intervention5
Response to Intervention
  • Words to live by:
  • High-quality, scientific, research-based instruction
  • Universal screening (3x per year)
  • Progress monitoring (on-going)
  • Data-based decision making
what rti is not
What RtI is NOT:
  • A Special Education program or initiative
  • A method for increasing or decreasing SPED numbers
  • A process that focuses on disability determinations
