  5. Understanding the audience • A graduation ceremony • An award ceremony • A Toast • How are all these different? • What affect do you want your speech to have on the audience? • Do you want them to Laugh? Cry? Be inspired? • Other responses?

  6. ASSIGNMENT • Choose an event at which you are going to give a Speech. It can be: • that you are receiving an award • that you are presenting an award to someone important to you • that you are inspiring people at a graduation ceremony • Or a tribute to someone important to you • Figure out what you want from the audience, AND tell a story that will help you achieve your goal.
