  1. Subplot Information Section 4.0 National Manual Version 1.56

  2. New Level of Information • Data that describe each individual subplot • Most items are not new • Recorded on each subplot instead of by condition • New Item: • Invasive Exotic Pest Plants • Species • Coverage

  3. Subplot Number • Center subplot • North subplot • Southeast subplot • Southwest subplot

  4. Subplot Center Condition Record the Condition Number at each subplot center Center of subplot one is always condition number 1

  5. Condition 1 Condition 2 New ItemMicroplot Center Condition

  6. New ItemSubplot Condition List Record the Condition Number of each condition on the subplot Four-digit code: Maximum of four conditions on any subplot Subplot Condition List = any combination of 1240

  7. Subplot Slope and AspectChanged • Record the slope and aspect of the subplot, not each condition • Only recorded on subplots that have at least one accessible forest condition

  8. New ItemSnow/Water Depth • Record depth of snow or water on the subplot • Record the decimal point (tenths of feet) • Used to indicate subplots where some variables may be measured with less certainty (i.e. seedling count)

  9. New ItemInvasive Exotic Pest Plants • Record up to four exotic species on the accessible forest land portion of each subplot • If there are less than four species on a subplot, can record presence of exotics off, but near, the subplot • If you happen to see it while completing other work around subplot (tree lengths, etc.) • But do not do an exhaustive search off the subplot

  10. New ItemInvasive Exotic Pest Plant Percent Coverage • Record percent coverage of the subplot • Trace < 1% • 1-10% • 11-50% • >50% • Exotic plant is found in the forest around, but not on the subplot

  11. 4.2 ft 2.4 ft One Percent Coverage • One percent cover of the subplot is equivalent to: • 4.2 ft x 4.2 ft square • 2.4 ft radius circle Only count the exotic plants on the accessible forest land conditions on the subplot. But always use the entire subplot area as the denominator.

  12. 13.4 ft 7.6 ft Ten Percent Coverage • Ten percent cover of the subplot is equivalent to: • 13.4 ft x 13.4 ft square • 7.6 ft radius circle Only count the exotic plants on the accessible forest land conditions on the subplot. But always use the entire subplot area as the denominator.
