  1. The Holy Rosary Grade 8

  2. Why Pray? We pray the Rosary as a way of reflecting on the life of Jesus with the help of The Virgin Mary. We are asking Mary to intercede. It is a simple act that can have great impact. Physical, mental and spiritual. We can offer a Rosary for others or a specific cause. "The rosary is the scourge of the devil" -- Pope Adrian VI

  3. Idiom A form of expression natural to a language, person, or group of people “The devil makes work for idle hands.”

  4. What are the results? Praying the Rosary can help us overcome temptation and bring us closer to God. It can be viewed as a form of meditation. See the 15 Promises

  5. The Rosary Beads These are not articles of jewelry. They are prayed with, not worn. They are a simple counting tool and not needed to pray the Rosary. Once used a few times you may not actually need the beads. Are we committing idolatry when using the beads?

  6. What to think about. There are different sets of mysteries to contemplate while reciting the Rosary.

  7. The Schedule Monday - Joyful Tuesday - Sorrowful Wednesday - Glorious Thursday - Luminous Friday - Sorrowful Saturday - Joyful Sunday - Glorious

  8. The Joyful Mysteries 1. The Annunciation of the Birth of Jesus to Mary 2. The Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth 3. The Birth of Jesus 4. The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple 5. The Finding of Jesus in the Temple

  9. The Luminous Mysteries 1. The Baptism of Jesus 2. The Wedding Feast at Cana 3. The Proclamation of the Kingdom 4. The Transfiguration of Jesus 5. The Institution of the Eucharist

  10. A note on the Luminous mysteries. These are the newest mysteries…well kind of. The acts have been known since Jesus performed them, however they were made to be a portion of the Rosary in 2002 by Pope John Paul II Many felt a gap between the Joyful and Sorrowful mysteries. Luminous means full of light and it is in these events that Jesus makes himself known as the Son of God.

  11. The Sorrowful Mysteries 1. The Agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gesthemane 2. The Scourging of Jesus at the Pillar 3. The Crowning of Thorns 4. The Carrying of the Cross 5. The Crucifixion of Jesus

  12. The Glorious Mysteries 1. The Resurrection of Jesus 2. The Ascension of Jesus into Heaven 3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost 4. The Assumption of Mary 5. The Coronation of Mary

  13. Keeping the Mysteries in Mind Repetition of prayers is meant to help you focus on the mysteries being recognized.

  23. Our Lady of Fatima In 1917 the Virgin Mary appeared to three children in Fatima Portugal a total of six times. "If My requests are not granted, Russia will spread its errors throughout the world, raising up wars and persecutions against the Church. The good will be martryed, the Holy Father will suffer much and various nations will be annihilated."

  28. What to do now. Today is Thursday, on Thursdays we pray upon the Luminous Mysteries. Pick one of the events of the Luminous mysteries and explain in a paragraph how it shows the revelation of Jesus as the Son of God. Be prepared to share. Ideas: Include miracles, other people who were present and their roles, and importance for showing Jesus as divine.

  29. Homework Describe a time in your life that you could have used prayer, but reacted in a negative manner instead. How would this reaction have changed the outcome? Would the results have been better? If you do not feel comfortable sharing a situation, you can feel free to make up a case study or scenario where prayer would have been a better result than a negative reaction. 1 paragraph, due Monday.
