  10. Why do you think the inner core is solid and the outer core is liquid? The core of our Earth is tremendously hot. It is believed to have a temperature of 7,000 degrees Celsius. Pressure keeps the inner core a solid, but allows the outer core to be a melted, liquid state.

  12. The mantle is a layer that is kind of like tar on a hot day. It flows, but very, very slowly. .

  14. The asthenosphere is just below the lithosphere. It is part of the mantle. The asthenosphere is solid rock that flows slowly, like hot asphalt or peanut butter.
