COHERENCE Principals and teachers carefully connect the learning within and across grades so that students can build new understanding onto foundations built in previous years.
Time to explore What questions do you have about the standards? Write two or three and share with your partner. Using links on following slides or Google-ing to find new resources, find ideas to help answer your questions. (Check for availability of computer lab)
Standards Document • Go to Grade Level/Course tables. • Go to page 11 to see grades 6-8 and High School. • Go to “Mathematics Emphasis Guides and Cluster Matrices” (grades 6-8). • Go to “PA Common Core Appendices” – Mathematics Appendix A.
Standards Document-Coherence • Go to “Math Cluster Matrix Trifolds” for your grade. • What do you notice? • What does it mean?

Reminder from Sarah Three actions for Common Core Standards Implementation… • Determine your focus • Give yourselves permission to let go of unessentials • Commit to depth over breadth Where will YOU begin?
How will you answer the Essential Question? How will the PA Common Core Standards change what I do and how I do it in my math class? OR Create an essential question that you would like to answer with more information and/or training.
