  8. The Shalt’s and Shalt Not’s of Board Development Thou shalt honor thy Development Committee Thou shalt keep thy big mouth shut Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s Board position Thou shalt know who we are and where we are going Thou shalt not do this at the last minute Thou shalt not sell ourselves short Thou shalt orient Thou shalt celebrate Thou shalt evaluate Thou shalt not do it alone!

  9. To boot or not to boot…that is the question.

  10. The Sabbatical

  11. If you have a board member who is burned out, experiencing some personal or work challenges, or fell off the wagon, give them permission to step down. Some people just need permission to quit…they are taking up a board seat that could be filled by a great board member.

  12. Conflicts of Interest You know that’s not right. • If you don’t have a policy, get one • If you are having a conflict, deal with it • Do not procrastinate Go Ahead!

  13. Compare Actual Board Performance to Job Description • Be Kind • Be Honest • Be Understanding • Be Firm
