  1. Conclusions Ending with a BANG!

  2. The conclusion’s job…… • It is your last chance to have the last word on the subject. • You will have the final say on the issue you presented by • Restating….(A) • Offering your suggestions and solutions (without using first person language) (B) • Passionately suggesting action from your reader or ending with a strong quote, statement, or story.(C)

  3. Part A – Red Restate Thesis • Using more passion and urgency then ever before, restate your thesis using stronger verbs and adjectives to describe. Rearrange the sentence for impact and variety. • (Original thesis sentence in introduction) Teenage eating disorders can be attributed to the media’s constant bombardment of ultra-thin magazine models and movie stars because it pressures teens to have the same look and body, even though it is grossly unhealthy. • (Restated thesis sentence in conclusion) Emaciated bodies, plastic, perfect appearances and flawless faces in the media create pressure for their young viewers, thus leading to destructive behavior.

  4. Part B – Green Solutions • Offer solutions and suggestions to cause change or end the conflict of your paper. • Ex. Television programming that includes “normal” looking teens, with normal teen problems from acne to awkwardness, would allow their viewers to identify with normal teens and their problems. Likewise, magazines must represent teen products and fashions in a morally responsible way.

  5. Part C – Blue Power!! • Propose a course of action, a solution to an issue, or questions for further study. • End with a powerful quotation or statement. • EX. The power of the media can either inspire or kill. Anything or anyone that holds that much power must be held accountable.

  6. Slogan to suggest the topic and tone with a cleverly written phrase!! Don’t forget to write an amazing title

  7. Here are a few “sloganeque”titles. • “A Deadly Diet: America’s Obsession to be Thin” • “Same-Sex Marriage: To Be or Not To Be” • “The Healthy World of Vegans” • “Sliding toward Safety: The Need for Skate Parks” You think of a few……..

  8. Sample: Concluding Sentences Though it seems impossible that the earth was frozen, the evidence is real and cannot be denied. The landmarks, the artifacts, and animal remains serve as our teachers. The question is….are we willing to be the students?
