  1. Biomedical Mechatronics Laboratory www.robots.neu.edu 233 Forsyth Building 360 Huntington Avenue Boston, MA, 02115 MAGNASIM: Computational Platform for MRI Guided Nanomagnetic Particle Aggregations • Approximately 7.6 million people die from cancer each year according to an article titled "ACS Report Focuses on Global Cancer Toll". • The new invention which is a development of a drug-delivery robotic system for localized tumor therapy Injects magnetized therapeutic nanoparticles (liposomes, micelles, carbon nanotubes, etc.) through the body and magnetically guide them to deep-seated lesions to increase the therapeutic efficiency while significantly reducing the side effects on healthy tissue. Localize Tumor Inject Micro/Nano vehicle Steer to/near Tumor Release Therapeutics Cancer gets killed • MAGNASIM is software to simulate the movement of particles in a fluidic environment either in micro or nanoscale. Basically the software would be able: • To examine Self-assembly process and breakup process • To provide design guidelines for fabricating, control and steering the nanocapsules • After gathering all the initial conditions, software is able to provide the user the following information: • Forces on each particle in each timesep. • Position of each particle in each timestep. • Interactions between particles. • Control and steer the particles to the considered destination. • Providing visualization of the particles movement.
