Global Assessments (1) • Purpose: To provide a clear picture of the state of development of official statistics in the country • Helps the national authorities to better programme the long-term development of statistics • Helps international donors to have a deep knowledge of their institutional and administrative work frame for the programming of statistical cooperation. • Usually conducted by two senior experts with a broad knowledge in official statistics and relevant experience in statistical co-operation. Global Assessments (2) • Produced often in co-operation UNECE – Eurostat • Also other combinations are possible • Global Assessments produced in recent years with the involvement of UNECE on the Statistical Systems of • Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia , Lithuania, Russia, Turkey • NSOs are invited to request the performing of a Global Assessment from UNECE Petteri Baer, UNECE Statistical Division

EA1: Next population censuses using regional ECE standards with specifications relevant to their national economic and social situation; EA 2: New ECE guidelines for the 2010 round of population censuses implemented in Central Asian countries; EA3: Strengthened capacity of Central Asian countries to produce and use statistics on the health status of the population; EA4: Better coverage by national accounts of aggregates of the informal sector (grey and black economy) and other forms of non-observed economic activities; Five expected accomplishments Petteri Baer, UNECE Statistical Division

Five expected accomplishments (2) • And last but not least: • EA5: Improved sub-regional cooperation among Central Asian countries in the area of statistics for tracking progress towards the Millennium Development Goals through regional meetings/workshops.
