On August 11, 2012, a significant initiative was discussed at the RMTC for training Asian forecasters in nowcasting techniques. Following a Geneva WGNR meeting, the proposal was formally reported to the ICD/CMA. In early summer 2011, ICD suggested a joint training event between PWSP and WWRP, but WGNR declined due to differing training objectives. Nevertheless, CMA continued to support training efforts, hosting WMO PWSP’s nowcasting program in Shanghai in the fall of 2011. Since 2003, Beijing MTC has led international training programs for developing countries.
