  3. Expectations • You will be treated as an adult. You are expected to conduct yourself as an adult. • You are training towards a professional qualification. You will be expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner. • You are here by choice, you want this qualification and we want to help you achieve the best possible grade.

  5. Deadlines • If you miss a deadline your work will not be marked. • If you are struggling to meet a deadline you MUST inform us BEFORE the due date so we can help you meet it. • If you miss a lesson it is your responsibility to catch up with anything you missed.

  6. What is Public Services all about? • PS is a vocational or work related level 3 BTEC. • It is aimed at anyone interested in careers in PS’s including the Fire Service, Police, Army, Mountain Rescue ...... • Focuses on gaining knowledge, skills, experience and understanding of these career paths.

  7. Examples of Knowledge: • Fitness requirements • Vital skills required to be successful in the Public Services. • Sport within the Public Services

  8. INTRODUCTION • The BTEC First Certificate in Public Services have been designed to work on the skills needed to achieve in the Public Services and for those students that wish to explore a vocational route in Post-16 education. • It provides an opportunity for students to gain a nationally recognised qualification to enter employment in the public service sector or to progress to further qualifications.

  9. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. They are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and achievement, taking into account industry standards for behaviour and performance. • Students are given the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.

  10. What activities will you have to do? • Both practical and theory based activities. • Group Work – Discussion, written tasks, research, homework tasks, team games, leadership activities, confidence builders. • Assessment activities to build your portfolio of evidence.

  11. Who is the btec aimed at? • The BTEC course is also suited to take alongside your GCSEs. • The course is a good choice for those individuals who may be intending to follow that route into a specific career, e.g. Armed forces. • The public service sector is the UK’s largest employer and includes central and local government, armed forces, emergency services and educational establishments.

  12. BTEC Certificate: • Core Units • Public Service Skills enables learners to develop knowledge and understanding of the core skills needed to progress in the Public Services. Skills such as team work, communication and discipline are vital in all area’s of the PS so will be developed here. • Specialist Units • Improving health and fitness for entry to the uniformed public services:Learners will explore the specific fitness area’s needed to gain entry to the Public Services . • Sport and Recreation in the Public Services: looking at the impact that sport can have within the Public Services.

Assessment and grading • In BTEC Nationals all units are internally assessed. • Each unit within the qualification has specified assessment and grading criteria which are to be used for grading purposes. A summative unit grade can be awarded at pass, merit or distinction: • to achieve a ‘pass’ a learner must have satisfied all the pass assessment criteria • to achieve a ‘merit’ a learner must additionally have satisfied all the merit grading criteria • to achieve a ‘distinction’ a learner must additionally have satisfied all the distinction grading criteria. • Learners who complete the unit but who do not meet all the pass criteria are graded ‘unclassified’.
