PSS apprenticeship: new SASE requirements (2) • 280 GLH per year, incl 100 GLH ‘off the job’ = ‘time away from area of work’ • Off the job GLH must be delivered during contracted working hours • Off the job GLH could include: • - KS/FS (45GLH for each subject) • - ERR • - Learning activities for KPSS/PSS Presentation Title runs here l 00/00/00
Edexcel Level 2 Certificate in Providing Security Services (QCF) • Replaces the NVQ in Providing Security Services (last NVQ registration 31 March 2011) • 28 units in new structure • 3 endorsed pathways plus non-endorsed pathway • 22 credits required Presentation Title runs here l 00/00/00
L2 Certificate in Providing Security Services – mandatory units • 4 mandatory units (9 credits) • U1: Reducing the risks to health and safety at work • U2: Communicate effectively with others • U3: Portray a positive personal image • U4: Control security incidents Presentation Title runs here l 00/00/00
L2 Certificate in Providing Security Services – optional units • Learners need 13 credits from optional units. • For people taking non-endorsed pathway: • number of optional units needed will vary from 3 to 7, depending on size of unit • For endorsed pathways • certain units are required but total still adds up to 13 credits Presentation Title runs here l 00/00/00

L2 Certificate in Providing Security Services - assessment • On QCF, no separation between ‘Performance Criteria’ and ‘Knowledge and Understanding’ • No range statements in QCF units. • Result = less duplication between performance and knowledge. • However, can’t ‘infer’ knowledge/understanding from performance • FAQ: how many times does performance need to be demonstrated? L2 Certificate in Providing Security Services (QCF) - simulation • Allowed in some units – but generally only for particular identified assessment criteria, not a blanket approach • But two searching units - simulation allowed for all performance-related assessment criteria if learner’s company does not permit searching to take place. BTEC L2 Cert in Knowledge of Providing Security Services – assessment and QA • L2P units assessed in exactly same way as in L2P qualifications • Test available from 31 May (estimated) • SIA requirements apply: invigilation, exam conditions, trainer competence • Remaining units are internally assessed and externally verified • One standards verifier for all apprenticeship components if registrations made for whole apprenticeship Presentation Title runs here l 00/00/00
BTEC L2 Cert in Knowledge of Providing Security Services – how to get a licence • KPSS is not licence linked: no upload of images/pass info to SIA. • Learners needing a licence will need to register on L2P qualification. • Learners will not have to undertake additional learning/assessment for units already achieved • New process for claiming ‘exemptions’ - Security Test Management Handbook, Issue 11.3 • Registration fees reduced, depending on number of units already achieved.
