  1. Modeling and Verification of the Progression of HC Sukhi Basati LPPD seminar 4/15/09 1

  2. Overview • Update on Del Bigio data simulation • Previous work – ADINA modeling and simulation with solid models and FSI • New results include pulsatile pressure deformation of brain tissue. • Volume Sensor update • Animal protocol issues 2

  3. Why research with animal data when we have human patient data? Voxel size =1.37 mm Simulate with pre_HC or 1 day? 3

  4. How could we benefit with animal data of HC? • Ideas: • First deform pre_HC ventricles in a way that mimics hydrocephalic rat. • (Apply different pressures with time functions to deform irregularly?) • Plot strain, stress or pressure in different regions. • (2d first then 3d) • (Show equations that ADINA solves to get strain, stress, or pressure) • Show differences between material properties. • 2 Methods  Linear elastic solid model or a Poroelastic model with fluid and solid elements • Can we provide conclusive reasons for behavioral defects in hydrocephalic patients? 4

  5. Method A • 2d Circle • Linear Elastic • Solid only 5

  6. Method A 2d Circle Linear Elastic Solid 6

  7. Method B • 2d Circle • Poroelastic • Fluid + Solid 7

  8. 2d Circle • Poroelastic • Fluid + Solid 8

  9. 3d Circle • Linear Elastic Solid • Comparison of statics solution and dynamics implicit • mesh distortion? • Pressure increase from 0 to 50 kPa • Young Modulus = 1000 9
