Program Characteristics:Entry-Level Requirements • About 36% of directors report that their program has a minimum required reading level for entry • About 24% of directors report that their program has a minimum required math level for entry • For those with entry requirements, averages for reading and math levels are both around 6th grade

Classroom Trends:Educator Practices and Expectations • 39% of Directors and 38% of Educators agreed that, “Teachers in this YouthBuild program teach to the test.” • 87% of Directors and 92% of Educators agreed that, “Teachers share consistently high expectations of appropriate student performance.” • 94% of Directors and 91% of Educators agreed that, “our education program offers quality academic instruction.”

Staffing Patterns:Experience Levels of YouthBuild Staff • 42% of educators in first year of teaching at YouthBuild • Almost 56% of educators in either first or second year of teaching at YB • Most have previous teaching experience elsewhere – only 17% of educators in their first or second year of teaching anywhere • 70% report previous teaching experience with low-income students • About 39% of directors in first or second year in their role

  16. Staffing Patterns:Certification Rates and Preparation • Slightly less than half of teachers (49%) certified • 48% of teachers certified in their subject area • Even mix of BA preparation (52%) and alternative preparation programs (48%) for teachers
