Drunk Driving Fatalities Decline Significantly Over Time

Total fatalities in drunk-driving crashes were 49% lower in 2009 than in 1982 and 19% lower than in 2000, reaching a record-low level, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This data includes all occupants and non-occupants involved in motor vehicle traffic crashes with a driver or motorcycle rider above the legal alcohol limit.
