Noise Margins • DC noise margin • It is a measure of how much noise it takes to corrupt a worst case output voltage into a value that may not be recognized properly by an input (Fig. 3-26 ,Pages 100-102) • VOHmin: The minimum output voltage in the HIGH state • VIHmin: Then minimum input voltage guaranteed to be recognized as a HIGH • VILmax: Then maximum input voltage guaranteed to be recognized as a LOW • VOLmax: Then maximum output voltage in the LOW state • Noise margin for HIGH state: VOHmax-VIHmin • Noise margin for LOW state: VILmax-VOLmax

Circuit Timing • Transition time (Fig. 3-36) • The amount of time that the output of a logic circuit takes to change from one state to another • Rise time: An output takes a certain time to change from LOW to HIGH • Fall time: An output takes a certain time to change from High to LOW • Propagation delay (Fig. 3-42) • A signal path is the electrical path from a particular input signal to a particular output signal of a logic element. • The propagation delay for a signal path is defined as the time that it takes a change • tpHL: The time between an input change and the corresponding output change when the output is changing from HIGH to LOW
