  1. Warm-Up: Who is your favorite character in a book or movie and how did they change throughout the story? *Please type your answer in the chat. I can: identify static and dynamic characters and explain how they propel the plot. (R.L.6.3) EQ: What do we do when life gets hard?

Static Characters • A static character is one who doesn't undergo any significant change in character, personality or perspective over the course of a story. • A static character typically does not develop or grow • The personality of this character remains the same at the end of the story as it appeared in the beginning. Static - stays the same

  3. Static Character Princess Jasmine in Aladdin • Princess Jasmine is a static character who did not change throughout the story. • She was kind, compassionate, stubborn throughout the beginning, middle, and end.

  4. Static Character Scar in the Lion King • Scar was the younger brother of Mufasa and 2nd born prince. • Scar was next in line to the throne and would become king. However, his chances were lost when his nephew, Simba, was born. • Scar was left jealous, becoming the villain. He developed a plan to take over the kingdom with the help of the hyenas.

  5. Static Character Gaston- Beauty and the Beast • Gaston was arrogant and greedy, who wanted Belle’s hand in marriage • Gaston turned into a villain when Belle fell in love with the beast

  6. Dynamic Characters • Dynamic characters undergo inner changes in both personality and/ or attitude. • Dynamic characters undergo important changes because of actions in the plot. Dynamic - different; the character changes throughout the story

  7. Dynamic Characters Gru-Despicable Me • Gru was formerly a supervillain • Gru wanted to pull of the “crime of the century” by stealing the moon. • He changed by adopting 3 girls and becoming a stay at home dad. • He was recruited for the Anti-Villain League to stop thefts.

  8. Dynamic Characters Beast-Beauty and the Beast • Prince turned into a beast because of his cold hearted and selfish ways. • Must fall in love before the last petal falls from the enchanted rose • Falls in love with Belle and turns back into a prince

  9. Your turn • Review “Mighty Miss Malone” (pg. 12) • Discuss:How would you characterize the characters from this story? Is Deza static or dynamic? What evidence supports this claim?
