  1. Warm- Up: In the torrid desert the girl’s long hair started to drip with sweat as she walked away. What does torrid mean and what clues did you use to help you? Unit 2 Essential Question: How do relationships shape us? I can support a claim with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

  2. New Assignment: Let’s learn about it! You have read the short story “The Circuit” and you are going to read the poem "A Poem for My Librarian, Mrs. Long" after winter break. The authors of both texts develop a common theme, “Relationships (even with adults) help shape us.” We are going to write an essay explaining how this theme is developed in each text. When we compare things we see the similarity in them.

Five-Paragraph Essay • Though we will be writing a four paragraph essay, the five paragraph essay has a similar structure. • During the video, take notes about writing an essay. • 3 things you need to include in an essay • 2 things from “The Circuit” that are important • 1 Question you have about essay writing I can support a claim with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

You will have until next Tuesday the 22nd to complete this assignment. After break we will finish the last two paragraphs.
