  3. 1. The Northern Mountain Rim • Made up of a series of mountain ranges • Hindu Kush Mtns., Himalayas, Karakoram Range • Forms a wall between subcontinent and rest of Asia • Khyber Pass allows entry between Pakistan and Afghanistan • Mt. Everest located in this region

  4. 2. The Northern plains • Located south of the Himalayas in Northern India • Indus and Ganges Rivers flow through this region • Very fertile farmland • Densely populated

  5. 3. The Deccan plateau • Located in Southern India • Surrounded by the Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats • Hot year round, unpredictable water supply • Not as populated as the Northern Plains
