Traditional Course/Grade Specific – CTE Integrated 9th Grade ELA Overview Algebra I or Geometry 10th Grade American Literature Geometry or Algebra II 11th Grade British/World Literature Statistics or Algebra II or Pre-Calculus 12th Grade ELA/Overview Pre-Calculus or AP Statistics or AP Calculus 3. By the End of High School Set of Content Expectations Mathematics ELA Social Studies Science CTE Integrated

  5. 10th Grade Assessment • College readiness assessment – ACT Plan or PSAT • Required for dual enrollment • Cut scores determined by State Superintendent • Paid for by school district or student

The Guiding Principles Recommendations are based on these beliefs: • The recommendations contain the requisite skills and knowledge for success in post-secondary education and the 21st Century workplace. • The preparation for post-secondary education and the workplace require the same skills. • Graduation requirements must be for each and every high school student.

The Guiding Principles • Rigorous learning standards must also include relevant applications of the standards. • Encourage innovation while improving the existing curriculum. • The teacher in the classroom is the heart of instructional excellence. • All Michigan high school students deserve to learn a core curriculum, based on world-class standards, high expectations, and equity.

  10. Student Graduation Requirements • Completion of a Michigan Merit Curriculum that includes a MichiganMerit Core and a 21st Century Applied Learning Core. • Completion of an online credit or noncredit course or learning experience. • Participation in the Michigan Merit Examination or MI-Access in the spring of the junior year.

  11. Implementation of the Michigan Merit Curriculum Requirements • Requirements beginning with the freshman class of 2006-07 (the graduating class of 2010) unless legislation to support this requirement has not been signed by March 1, 2006 (otherwise the requirement will begin with the freshman class of 2007-08). • District requirement to file a phase-in plan if unable to implement immediately. • Student modification allowed after three years in Michigan Merit Curriculum.
