  2. Coleraine Academical Institution • Key Points • Admissions criteria aim to maintain academic ethos of school whilst strengthening family links and maintaining links with community. • 125 pupils are admitted into Year 8.

  3. CAI Admissions Process • 2 Stage Process • Stage 1 – Academic Criterion • Admit 100 pupils on results of Common Entrance Assessment (CEA) supplied by AQE (Association for Quality Education). • Unsuccessful in Stage 1 proceed automatically to Stage 2.

CAI Admissions Process • Stage 2 – Non-Academic Criteria • Admit 25 pupils using non-academic criteria set by Board of Governors. • Non-academic criteria applied to all pupils in Stage 2. • Criteria will consider brothers CAI/sisters at CHS, eldest/only boy in family, family connections, employees, geography.

The Exam Process • Register with AQE between 16 May and 16 September 2011. • Registration forms available from primary schools, AQE schools, AQE and website www.aqe.org.uk. • Registration forms returned to AQE office. • Cost is £39.50 per pupil. • Confirmation of entry is the AQE Admissions Card. • AQE office closed 6 July – 5 August 2011.

The Exam Process • Familiarisation day for Year 7 pupils will be Saturday 15th October at 10.00 am • Test dates will be Saturday 12th & 26th November and 3rd December. • Each paper lasts 1 hour (10.00 am - 11.00 am). • Take 2 or 3 tests. • 2 best scores taken & standardised score calculated. • Results (standardised score) sent to parents & AQE schools – Saturday 4th February.

What you need to do • Syllabus – Specification = CCEA 2007/08 Transfer Test minus Science and Technology ie English and Mathematics up to Level 5 only. • Full details from AQE or www.aqe.org.uk Tel. 028 9075 3746. • Register with AQE to sit the test • 16 May until 16 September • Preferred centre • Infornation on www.coleraineai.com
