  3. The Telegram • In January of 1917, British cryptographers deciphered a telegram from German Foreign Minister • If Mexico Attacked the US and joined on the side of Germany she would be given back lost territories from the Tex-Mex War (1846).

  4. Significance of the Zimmerman Telegram • The greatest intelligence coup of World War I • Brought US into the war on the side of the Allies • Helped tip the balance of the war assuredly on the side of the Allies

  5. Wikileaks • Wikileaks has published on its site 278 of 251,287 of what it describes as US "cables”. • Clinton urges CIA TOcollect "biographic and biometric" information - including iris scans, DNA samples and fingerprints - of key officials at the UN. • Claims Canada has inferiority complex.

Russian Revolution • March 1917 the Reds defeat the Whites and install provisional government in Petrograd. • The Tsar abdicates and the army relents, due to the revolutions popular support. • The provisional government continues the war effort with opposition from the Bolsheviks led by Lenin.

  8. October Revolution (1917) leads to control by the Bolsheviks and the beginning of the Soviet Union. • Oppose to WWI due to its Imperialist motives, and sign neutrality treaty with Germany. • Bolsheviks focus energy on the organization and structure of new socialist government.
