  3. Facebook Basics: Signing Up • What do I need to get on? • Valid email address • Must be 13+ • Free to join • Follow name standards

Facebook Basics: Pages URL: www.facebook.com/NAME • Basically a profile for businesses, orgs, public figures, etc. • “Like” as addition to your feed • Anyone can create a Page • Choose name • Categorize • Customize • Tips for a successful page • Choose a successful page icon • Fill out all the info • Be mindful of your posts/content • What are you trying to relay/goal? • Who is your audience? • What is your tone? • What is the theme? • Is your page visually appealing? • Update as much as possible • Determine frequency • Most pages post 1-5 times/day • Consider exclusive content • Set pattern of content

Facebook Basics: Groups URL: www.facebook.com/groups/NAME • Discussion Board/forum feel but not good for larger numbers • Membership types: Open, Closed, Secret • Choose clear name and corresponding URL • Use group email address for easy access to all members • Be creative in description but remember your mission and use keywords • Decided on permissions • Can anyone posts? • Add administrators • Can members approve others? • Basic features: About section, Events, Photos, Files • Posts appear in News Feed format, but attached files or media are archived in Photos tab

  11. Facebook Basics: News Feed • General area where friends, content and ads collide • Sorted by Top stories or Most Recent • Update status, Comment on posts of any kind, share attachments here

Facebook Basics: SEO • Optimize your page by thinking like Google • Use keywords • Include caption for all links, media • Post photos to multiple albums and provide text rich descriptions • Broadcast real and virtual events • Interact! Ask users what they think, ask for content, push for comments • Use numbers in titles (stats who people read these more) • Videos are shared more on Facebook • Use Simple language with plenty of verbs • Use the share button and Like button
