Meet the Coaches NightPurpose • Understand the philosophy of our athletic program • Hear all of the athletic programs we offer • Meet with and talk to all of our coaches • Acquire information about summer camps, and starting dates for tryouts for fall, winter, and spring seasons • Understand the basic FCPS and LHS expectations and requirements for athletic participation. • Become a member of athletic boosters organization Respect > Entitlement

  8. Eligibility • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A and receive no F’s • Eligibility is based on term grades. • Please monitor your Athletes grades online • All incoming 9th grade students are eligible to begin the school year. • Eligibility rules will take affect for freshmen at the completion of the first term.

  9. Attendance Policy • Student-athlete must be in school for the entire day. • On Time & In the classroom • Athletes are held to a higher standard and we need to accept this role. Respect > Entitlement

  10. Sports Medicine Licensed Athletic Trainer Pivot Physical Therapy

  11. Services Provided • Hours: Daily beginning at 2:00 • After school available in Athletic Training room • Attend practices and all home events

  12. Services Provided • Injury prevention • Proper stretching and warm-up • Bracing/taping • Proper strengthening techniques for specific muscle groups • Functional Movement Screening

  13. Services Provided • Injury evaluation and treatment • First aid • Orthopedic • General medical concerns • Nutrition information/advice

  14. Services Provided • Referral • Orthopedic group • Concussion resources • Physical Therapy • Relationship with Emergency room, Urgent Care facilities, and Primary Care Physicians

  15. Medical Conditions • It is important that if your student-athlete has a pre-existing condition that the athletic trainer and coaches are made aware in the event that the athlete needs to be treated. • If an athlete requires an Epi-Pen, inhaler, or contacts, please provide  an extra to be placed in the teams medical kit, which is with them at all times.

  16. Injuries • If an injury happens during a competition please stay in the stands unless called down by an administrator • All injuries should be reported to and evaluated by the athletic trainer • The athletic trainer will help to facilitate doctor appointments for the athletes if necessary • A return to play decision will be made by the athletic trainer if the student-athlete is not seen by a doctor. IF seen by a doctor, what they say goes! • There is rehab equipment in the Training which the athletic trainer will use with athletes on days they may not be attending Physical therapy or when it is time to return them to play • Formal Physical Therapy is extremely helpful to get the athlete back on the field as quickly and safely as possible in some scenarios

  17. Heat Illness • Start preparing now • Summer conditioning camps • Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate • Water vs. Gatorade • G Week • Proper nutrition • Spend time outside! • Let someone know if you are not feeling well before it gets too bad!

  18. Concussions • Be aware of signs and symptoms • Not every bump to the head means you have a concussion • Thorough evaluation tools used at LHS • “When in doubt, sit them out!”

Concussions Senate Bill 771- Concussion Legislation States: • Any  athlete participating in any athletic activity  who sustains a probable head injury/ concussion needs to be cleared by a physician, and complete a 6 step gradual return to play protocol.  • Every concussion is different and will be treated accordingly, there is no set time limit on returning to play Basic 6 Step Return to play 1)      15 minute jog 2)      30 minute jog 3)      60 min light sport activity w/ minimal conditioning 4)      Full practice at without contact moderate conditioning 5)      Full Practice/ Full activity  6) Return to competition           *Must have 24hr between steps * MUST be symptom free to begin RTP and advance to following step * Athlete will be evaluated at each step to measure signs and symptoms.

  20. HARASSMENT/HAZING • Has become a major issue in recent years. • Please discuss with your son /daughter as we have No Tolerance for this behavior. • Examples include but are not limited to slurs, jokes, or other graphic conduct relating to a student’s race, color, sex, religion orgin, age, and disability. • Trust is earned so Treat Others as You Want to be Treated, with RESPECT!

  25. Try-Outs / First Day of Season • FCPS Student-Athlete packet completed and turned in before practice begins. • Packets completed and submitted before try-outs • Try-Out Dates • Fall - August 14, 2019 • Winter – November 15, 2019 • Spring – February 29, 2020

  26. Try-Outs / First Day of Season • Physical Forms must be dated on or after April 1st 2019. • The physical form is valid for the entire school year, but a new packet must be completed or updated before each sport season.
