  2. BACKGROUND The Board of Education removed the graduation requirements of Driver’s Education and Health courses only for the 2013-2014 freshmen class.

  3. The concept of permanently removing Driver’s Education and Health as a graduation requirement was presented and discussed with the following groups: • Administrators • Counselors • Registrars • 7-12 Best Practice Committee • Curriculum Council

  4. All groups were in support of removing Driver’s Education and Health as a graduation requirement.

  5. Recommendation Staff recommends the Board of Education permanently remove Driver’s Education and Health courses as a graduation requirement for students effective July 1, 2014.

  6. Next Steps • Continue to offer Driver’s Education • Expand current Health course from a quarter to a semester course • Develop and offer additional courses as options for students • Technology Literacy • Financial Literacy • Other courses
