  2. Why a 3rd official ? •   During the 2007 season in our association new officials suffered the fait of not developing due to lack of floor time .This was due to having far to many new officials, and being a small centre not being able to offer enough games to the new referees. This program will ensure you can offer more games and develop confidence and competency in the new or newish official.

  3. What calls do they make ? • NONE ! • The 3rd officials have no capacity to make calls during play • 3rd officials do not carry whistles

  4. Why are they there ? • The 3rd officials job is to: • Ensure proper floor positioning of the officials • It's hard to make the right call when your not in position • Make real time corrections on the fly • Guide new officials in the mechanics of officiating • Follow the flow of the game. • Maintain Positioning. • Appropriate Signals and Communication

  5. How much will it cost the association ? • The Elora minor lacrosse association paid the 3rd official $10 per game total cost for the season was $ 310

  6. Who could be a 3rd official ? • R.I.C.s of the associations would want to use : • Any competent level 3 and above ADULT OFFICIAL • You want your best teaching the NEW

  7. What’s the advantage • Less on floor conflicts between bench staff and officials • Consistency of calls being made • Instill confidence in the new official • MORE FLOOR TIME

  8. How much extra floor time ? • Our program consisted of 20 tyke and 13 novice games, this represents 66 man games • Each official saw 13.2 games as opposed to 6.6 without the 3rd official • 50% increase in floor time • There is no substitute for floor time !
