  1. Review of Literature • The second chapter of a research study is the Review of Literature • The purpose of the review of literature is to make the readers aware of the extent of the research problem under investigation • This is not a book report on each lit review item obtained

Using the Resources • Resources are used to support facts and statements in the Lit Review • For example, a researcher wishes to make the point that fatalities due to falls in the construction industry are a significant problem. • A statement in the lit review says exactly that and is then cited using credible references • Cite your references

  3. How to Set/Reset Grammar and Spell Check in Word • In Word • Once you check a paper once in grammar check, Word will bypass any future errors • If your Spell/Grammar check is not set to Grammar and Style, you will not identify many grammatical errors in your papers.

  4. How to Set and Reset Your Grammar Check • Open Word • Open your document you wish to check • Click on the Office Button (Circle with the emblem on it in the upper left corner) • At the bottom of the box that opens, there is a little box that says “Word Options” • Click on Word Options • A new box opens with a menu along the left, click on “Proofing” • Under the Section “When Checking Spelling and Grammar”, there is a drop down menu next to “Writing Style” • Select “Grammar and Style” • Then click the box that says “Check Document” • A warning will come up, Click “yes” • Then click “Okay”, that will return you to your document • Click the “Review Tab” at the top of your screen then the “Spelling” icon (A checkmark)

  5. Week 6 Assignment • Submit your completed review of literature to the instructor by the due date listed in the syllabus. Follow the criteria listed under Research Project Information. • 5 -10 pages double spaced

  6. Citations • Use an approved method of citing the references • Use Parenthetical citations in the paper • APA • Journal Article: • Devine, P. G., & Sherman, S. J. (1992). Intuitive versus rational judgment and the role of stereotyping in the human condition: Kirk or Spock? Psychological Inquiry, 3(2), 153-159. • In the text: • Judgment styles can vary greatly with intuitive judgment being most often identified in studies (Devine & Sherman, 1992).

  7. Purpose of the Literature Review • You are proposing to conduct a study of some type • Use the literature review to: • Justify the fact that the broad area you will be studying is an issue of importance • Identify the status of the research in the field to date • Identify gaps that exist in the current research • Justify the need for your proposed study and it’s significance to the research base
