  3. Ask Meaningful Questions! Be Willing To Think Outside the BOX! A good question is as valuable as a good answer! Don’t try to stick Mobile Learning in a traditional wrapper

  4. Step 1: Create a Strategy Document • If you are just getting started with Mobile Learning…begin by documenting the process! • If you are trying to salvage an unsuccessful attempt at Mobile Learning, start over and frame it in a new way. Begin by documenting the process! • If you have Mobile Learning and are trying to increase usage, document the process! Stay tuned…we have some suggestions on HOW you document the process!

  6. Step 2: Target Audience • Who is the target audience for Mobile Learning? • Why? • Will the target audience change as the program grows?

  7. Step 3: Define the Objective(s) • What do you hope to achieve by offering Mobile Learning? • What is the initial goal for Mobile Learning? • What training or knowledge gap will Mobile Learning fill? • Why will Mobile Learning be useful to meet the initial goal? • How will you define success or failure?

  8. Step 4: Technical Requirements • Where will the Mobile Content live? • Do you expect usage to be tracked? • Do you have an LMS? Does the LMS have a Mobile App? • Is your LMS hosted or behind your firewall? • Are you willing to place your LMS in the DMZ? • Are you expecting users to have an internet connection or are you expecting users to access content using a wireless data plan?

  12. Step 5: Mobile Learning Devices • Do you have a list of supported Mobile Devices? • Do you provide Mobile Devices to Users? Are those users in your target group? • What does “supported” Mobile Device mean in your environment? • Are all Mobile Devices useful for Mobile Learning? • What devices will you support for Mobile Learning specifically? • How do you prepare for and test NEW mobile devices?

Step 6: Mobile Learning Content • What do you consider to be “Mobile Content?” • What type of content is required to meet the initial objective? • What topics are appropriate for mobile learning? • If the content is m-Learning, was it CREATED for a mobile device? • If the content is m-Learning, how is it packaged? • If the content is m-Learning, do you expect it to bookmark and track? • Will you create your own m-Learning?

Step 7: Expected Outcome • When and where do you expect users to access Mobile Learning? • What need is met by Mobile Learning that is not covered by other learning options in your environment? • How much time do you expect the target audience to spend using Mobile Learning to meet the initial objective? • What happens if the expectation is not realistic?

Step 8: Deployment/Maintenance • How will you communicate the original goal and expected usage to the Target Audience? • How will you communicate future goals and expected usage to the Target Audience? • How will you keep up with new mobile devices? • What is your testing procedure for adding new content and new devices into the mix?

Step 9: Growth and Future Usage • If you don’t have a plan for growth and future usage, you have wasted LOTS of time and money! • Map out a plan! • Identify when the plan isn’t working and make the appropriate changes! • Add Mobile Learning as a topic for your Help Desk meetings, training meetings, curriculum planning, etc.
