  2. Introduction In between 3500 and 2300 BCE, four incredible empires rose up in Mesopotamia and made many amazing achievements. Akkadian Empire The Akkadian Empire was the first empire in Mesopotamia with a powerful leader, skilled army, and a successful rule. • The leader, Sargon, assembled a large army to win territory for his empire. • Sargon was the first king to make it so his sons ruled after him. • The Akkadians developed steles( a kind of sculpture) and their own language that replaced the Sumerian language.

Babylonian Empire The Babylonian Empire was ruled by Hammurabi who wrote fair laws and allowed equality for more people. • Hammurabi created a code with fair laws from the gods. • He allowed trade with distant lands and agriculture to thrive. • Slaves and women were given some rights and equality.

Assyrian Empire The Assyrian Empire was very warlike and created many different weapons. • They were feared for their horses, siege towers, and battering rams in battle. • They had art showing kings hunting, fishing, fighting, and more. • They stretched their territory from Egypt to the Persian Gulf.

  6. Neo-Babylonian Empire The 605-562 BCE Neo-Babylonian Empire was ruled by Nebuchadrezzar. • He protected the city with walls and a moat. • He created the Hanging Gardens Of Babylon, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. • The Neo-Babylonians created our 60 minute hour and 7 day week.

  7. The Best Empire The Akkadian Empire was the best empire to live in. • This empire had a skilled, strong king who was a good general and a clever politician. • The Akkadians made it so the kings son would rule after him, which was used for a very long time. • They developed a language that replaced the Sumerian one, which was used for all four empires.
