  1. RNA Transcription

  2. RNA transcription occurs within the cells of all living organisms. CLICK HERE

  3. The messenger RNA (mRNA) must first travel into the nucleus of the cell. CLICK HERE

  4. http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~edy/genome/chromosomes.jpg Once the mRNA is inside of the nucleus it searches within a certain chromosome. CLICK HERE

  6. T = Thymine G = Guanine A = Adenine C = Cytosine T G A A A C T T It is in this gene that the mRNA will copy the required information to make a protein. CLICK HERE

  7. T G A A A C T T First, an enzyme ‘unzips’ the DNA by breaking the hydrogen bonds, which are connecting the nitrogen bases. This allows the mRNA to enter. CLICK HERE

  12. T G A A A C T T

  13. T G A A A C T T Next, the mRNA nucleotides temporarily match up with the appropriate DNA nucleotides from only one side of the DNA. CLICK HERE

  14. T G A A  Note that mRNA does not contain T (thymine), instead U (uracil) is paired with A (adenine). This enables the mRNA to leave the cell nucleus. Because DNA always contains thymine it can never leave the nucleus of a cell. U G A A A C T T

  15. T G A A U G A A A C T T After copying the required information the mRNA carries this information to the ribosome, where it will be turned into a protein. CLICK HERE

  16. T G A A A C T T After the mRNA exits the DNA, the hydrogen bonds of the gene ‘zip’ back together. The DNA is not changed AT ALL during transcription. CLICK HERE
