  13. Students want to know: Am I in the right room? Where am I supposed to sit? Who is the teacher as a person? How will the teacher treat me? What are the rules? What will I be doing? How will I be graded?

  17. If you blow these moments, the success of the entire class is jeopardized. .

  20. Comparing Rules to Procedures Discipline is students behave. Discipline has penalties and rewards. A rule is a Dare to be broken. Procedures are how things are done. Procedures have no penalties or rewards. A procedure is a Do, a step to be learned.

  22. 3-Step Approach to Teaching Procedures Explain: State, explain, model, and demonstrate the procedure. 2) Rehearse: Rehearse and practice the procedure under your supervision. 3) Reinforce: Re-teach, rehearse, and reinforce procedure until it becomes learned behavior.

  23. Portfolio Documentation Written expectations for student success and integrity. “Ice breaker” activity. Written classroom procedures. Attendance, material sign-out, grades, and other forms for classroom management. Forms to communicate expectations and praise students.
