USES Read along (Gate City ,LadyBug,Stone Face or classrooms reads) Centers for leveled groups Lite Research on the web Summer reading… Challenged/reluctant readers Web …Follett, Bee Hive, Big Universe, Overdrive, MyOn…various others. ABDO and other vendors also have multiple user access. Costs?

  4. What We Bought NOOK color (overstock) WHY: Price, Functionality, Support from B&N locally, Already had 5, Ease of use, Multiple use, Cost of books, Familiarity, Staff . Downside: Battery life, Future of B&N ?

  5. SET UP(NOOKS) • Each NOOK is numbered in groupings of 5 ( we have 29) Each grouping is associated with purchased VISA card. Bought 5 ($50) cards • Book orders completed and downloaded by LMS • Nooks signed out from library by classroom teachers • Settings are not to be changed EVER • Recharged daily (adults only) • B&N has been very helpful in implementation

  6. BENEFITS Multiple books always available Books at every level for use in classes with diverse populations. Everyone has the same device. No discrimination for students readinglower level books. All look the same! Cost less Internet use in the library…Discovery Education, Follett/Destiny and other subscriptions like Overdrive Teaching technology as well as reading appreciation Support from B&N invaluable (cords)

  7. The CHALLENGES Charging Students wanting to download and take home Teacher training Time consuming for LMS ( downloads and charges) Maximizing utilization Allocation What to do when these die or are obsolete
