First Year Modules: • Compulsory (40 credits total) • AM1052 - Introduction to Mechanics • AM1053 - Introduction to Mathematical Modelling • AM1054 - Mathematical Software • MA1057 - Introduction to Abstract Algebra • MA1058 - Introduction to Linear Algebra • MA1059 - Calculus • MA1060 - Introduction to Analysis • ST1051 - Introduction to Probability and Statistics

  3. Electives (Need total of 20 credits) • AC1117 - Business Finance I (10 cr, P1+2) • BL1005 - Biodiversity, Ecology and Env. Biology (5 cr, P2) • CM1006 – Intro. to Chemistry for Physicists and Mathematicians (10 cr, P1+2) • CS1061 - Programming in C (5 cr, P1) • CS1065 - Computer Apps with Visual Basic (5 cr, P2) • CS1069 - Introduction to Internet Technologies (5 cr, P1) • EC1206 - Principles of Economic Analysis (10 cr, P1+2) • GL1001 - Introduction to Geology (5 cr, P1) • PA1003 - Principles of Market Analysis (10 cr, P1+2) • PY1052 - Introductory Physics I (10 cr, P1) • PY1053 - Introductory Physics II (10 cr, P2) • PY1054 - Special Topics in Physics (5cr, P1+2) • Be aware of timetable clashes and second year outlets • Final decision by Friday October 12

  4. First Lecture: • If you take CS1061 it is at 9am on Monday in WGB G16 • Otherwise your first lecture is AM1053 at 10am on Monday in WGB G01

  5. Second Year Outlets Mathematical Sciences (combines AM, MA, ST) Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Sciences Applied Mathematics and Physics Mathematics and Physics Option 2 can be helped by taking AC1117 and PA1003 Options 3+4 require PY1052 and PY1053

  6. Continuous Assessment and Exams All School modules in first year (and most in later years) are assessed by a mixture of continuous assessment (= in-class tests, homeworks, etc.) and a final exam in May. Details can be found in the Book of Modules, and from your lecturer! If you miss a test for a good reason then let us know!!!
