  2. Event Timeline • 1-31-19 Jackie Roosevelt Robinson was born. • He was the youngest of five. • February 1939, he went to UCLA. He played football, basketball, baseball and track. • 1940, Jackie signed with a semiprofessional football team, Honolulu Bears. • He was drafted into the Army.

  3. Event Timeline • 1-28-43 Jackie graduated from Officer candidate school as a second lieutenant. • Jackie became engaged to Rachel Isum. • He was honorably discharged from the Army. • Jackie tried out for the Kansas City Monarchs baseball team. He made the team as a shortstop.

  4. Event Timeline • August 28, 1945- Mr. Rickey of the Brooklyn Dodgers wanted Jackie to play for him • Feb 10, 1946- Jackie and Rachel were married. • March 17, 1946-Jackie played for the Montreal Royals, the farm team for the Dodgers

Event Timeline • The Royals won the International League Championship. • November 18, 1946-Their first son was born. • April 1947, Jackie was given number 42 to play for he Dodgers • He was the first black player in the National League • Players and crowds were mean to him. • 1947- He was named Rookie of the Year • 1949- Dodgers won the National League pennant and he was named MVP

Event Timeline • 1-13-50- They had their daughter • 1950- A movie producer made a movie about Jackie • 5-14-52 – 3rd child David was born • He retired in 1957 • He died in 1972 from a heart attack at 53 • He is in the baseball Hall of Fame • 1997- Baseball retired his number • April 15 is Jackie Robinson Day in baseball
