  1. Per Bak Jensen • Born 22 April, 1949 in Denmark • Went to school in Copenhagen • Then studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1980-1986 • He was the first graduate from the Art school to use only photography as a medium. • Bak Jensen shows his work through exhibitions and books. • For Bak Jensen, photography is a means of interpreting the world. • Bak Jensen likes to promote photography and take pictures of things that are not usually appreciated or noticed. • Bak Jensen is known for his striking landscape photography. • Bak Jensen is inspired by the beauty he finds in normal things, and wants to capture them in the way that he sees them.

  2. Burning Field 2008 The natural lighting used in this photo is coming from the left side of the horizon line. The main subject of the photo is the fire in the lower left, because the most smoke is rising from the larger fire, and it draws the viewers eyes there. The photo is striking because the subject is so small, and the photo incorporates so much into the frame. Through this photo, Bak Jensen is showing the beauty that is in a otherwise uninteresting process. http://www.artnet.com/artwork/425969746/423947955/per-bak-jensen-burning-field.html

  3. The Door • http://www.artnet.com/artwork/426036272/424467736/per-bak-jensen-the-door.html • 2007 Natural light is used in this photo, coming from behind the subject. The subject of the photo is the little strip of sand in the middle, and the group of rocks that it leads to, because they are all placed in the center of the photo and there is a plain background. This photo is striking because of the horizon line created by the straight water line, and the strip of sand acting as a leading line to the rocks. The colors in this photo are really beautiful and compliment each other nicely. The photographer is communicating the beauty of the beach and simple water that is such a natural wonder. I think this picture is really beautiful and I feel really connected to past memories of the beach when I look at it.

  4. Coney Island • http://www.bjerggaard.com/modules/default.aspx?pageid=13&artistid=8&showid=vaerker# • 1990 Natural lighting is used in this photo, but the light isn’t coming from any specific point, and the sky is a consistent color. The main subject of the photo is the Ferris Wheel, because it takes up more of the picture than the arcade stands, and is more prominent. This photo is striking because of the use of black and white, creating contrast between three colors, and nothing blends together. The line of the top of the arcade stands lead to the Ferris Wheel. Through this photo Bak Jensen is communicating the amusement park at a stand-still, and emotions that come with the pause in screams of joy. The story of this photo may be a personal memory of Bak Jensen’s that he attempted to capture in a picture. This photo is interesting to me because its in black and white and is a stop in time in the ‘amusement world.’

  5. Forest • 2007 • http://www.artscope.net/VAREVIEWS/artchicagoyourguide0408.shtml Natural light is used in this photo, coming from behind the trees through the fog. The lighting used makes the forest look mysterious and interesting. The subjects of the photo are the prominent trees, but mainly the thick tree on the left. The photo is interesting because the vertical lines that the trees create are pattern-like and the photo is mysterious that creates a drawn-in emotion when looking at the picture. I like this photo because of the simplistic colors and pattern and mystery the trees make.

  6. Lighthouse • http://www.artnet.com/Galleries/Artwork_Detail.asp?G=&gid=424467736&cid=185844&which=&aid=21572&wid=426036269&source=exhibitions&rta=http://www.artnet.com/artwork/426036272/424467736/per-bak-jensen-the-door.html • 2008 Natural light for this photo is used, and it is coming from behind the clouds and one small artificial light is coming from the lighthouse. The subject of the photo is the small lighthouse, and the bush in the bottom left corner. The bush is larger, but overall the lighthouse is the more interesting subject. The photo is interesting because the water and sky are the same color, interrupted by the lighthouse and bush and clouds in the upper left corner. There is a thick leading line that leads to lighthouse, coming from the left side of the picture. Bak Jensen is communicating the interest of the night and figures on a small scale. I think this photo is beautiful because of the coloring and texture of the subjects.
