Debate Guidelines and Requirements for School Topics
This document outlines the structure and requirements for debates on various school topics, including arguments, cross-examinations, and rebuttals. Students must develop a 3-minute argument and understand both sides of the issue. Speeches should be 3+ pages, double-spaced, in 12pt Times New Roman font with 1" margins. Papers are due on January 29th, regardless of the debate day. Note cards are allowed for comfort.

Write this down! • What are the parts of the debate? • Arguments • Each person will develop a 3 minute argument on their topic. • Each person in your group should take ONE part of the argument • Cross Examination • After a person gives their argument speech, one person from the other team will ask the other person questions to try and prove them wrong • Rebuttal • Each team will then be given 5 minutes after all arguments and examinations to give a rebuttal or one final speech to disprove the points of the other team

Debate Paper Requirements • Each speech should be 3+ pages • 12 pt font; Times New Roman; Double-Spaced; 1” margins • You will turn in one copy in this format to me for grading. • You may print another copy in a larger font (or whatever you need) for your actual debate. • You are also welcome to use notecards for your debate if you are more comfortable • Due Date: Wednesday, January 29th • All papers are due on this date regardless of your debate day
