  1. Christmas “SUN”bread Gabriella Yordanova and Veselin Semerdjiev SOU ,,Ivan Vazov” Pleven, Bulgaria

  2. Introduction The Christmas holiday in Bulgaria starts off from 20th December and extends up to the 26th of the month. Celebrating Christ's birth, it is also dedicated to the sanctity of Bulgarian family life and homes. We mark Christmas on December 25th after a 40th-day Advent fast of no animal products, cheese, butter, eggs and milk.

  3. ,,SUN” BREAD This is traditional bread from Bulgaria, always used on Christmas. Enriched with eggs and feta cheese(you could replace with other cheese on our choice) this bread will make you love it and definitely do it again!

  4. Products for ,,SUN” Bread 2 tablespoons active dry yeast 3 tablespoons lukewarm milk 3 eggs, beaten 3 tablespoons sugar 2 – 2 1/2 cups bread flour 1 stick butter, melted 1/2 teaspoon salt

  5. How to make ,,SUN” bread? 1 step! Mix yeast and milk. Let stand until foamy. Stir in eggs, sugar, 2 cups flour, butter, salt and lemon. Mix well, adding flour as necessary to form a dough. Knead on a floured surface for 8 – 10 minutes or until dough is smooth and elastic.

  6. Step 2 With one portion, form a round flat ball to make the sun’s face. Use a knife to carve eyes and a mouth. Use a bit of dough from the second half to form a nose. Divide the rest of the second half into six portions. Shape three pieces into puffy triangles.

  7. STEP 3 Roll the other three pieces into foot long lengths. Roll them to form snail shapes. Alternate the puffy triangles and snails around the outside of the sun’s face. Attach firmly with a bit of water or gently pressing. Cover the sun and allow to rise again in a warm place for about an hour.

  8. This bread is served with dried fruit such as: • Apples • Plums • Boiled maize • Walnuts

  9. Enjoy the Christmas with your family or friends!

  10. END! We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
