  6. Confederate alliances Britain and France Needed because the south Bought weapons from France and Britain in exchange for cotton and tobacco !

  7. Battle at fort Sumter • Battle at fort Sumter - April 12th 1861 • Located –Charleston, south Carolina • union – major Anderson Confederate- general Beauregard • Lasted two days without casualties union surrendered April 14th • Significance - (beginning of civil war)

Battle of bull run • Battle of bull run - July 21st 1861 • Located -Occoquan river • union-Brigadier general Irvin McDowell confederate-Brigadier general Beauregard • Causalities union- 2896 confederate-1982 • Significance -Both sides realized it would be a bloody battle also it would take longer than expected

Battle of Gettysburg • July 1st – 3rd 1863 • Located - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania • Union- Major general George Meade Confederate-General Robert E. lee • Casualties – union 3155 killed 14,531 injured , 5369 captured / missing Confederates 4708 killed 12,693 wounded , 5830 captured / missing significances – turning point for the union

  11. Battle of Appomattox courthouse • April 9th 1865 • Located - Virginia • Union- general Grant • Confederate- general Lee • Casualties union – 164 • Confederate – 500 killed 27,800 surrendered • Significance – general lee finally surrendered to the union (end of civil war)

  13. Weapons continued • *Cannons Napoleon(12 pound shot) and howitzer (12,24 & 32 pound shot • *Rifles 2-3 shots per minute Accurate from 100 to 400yards

  14. Transportation • Horses • Wagons • ships: U.S.S. monitor fully armed & C.S.S. north Carolina ironclad war ship

  15. End of war * April 9th 1865 general lee sent a letter agreeing to surrender at 11:50 am *located -Virginia *Union – general Grant Confederate- General Lee *600,000 to 700,000 people were dead at the end of it all

  16. Affected Americas future This helped America because it brought the two states together to make one nation. Also if union didn’t win slaves would most likely still exist and Jefferson Davis would have been the president in the late 1800s which would of most likely changed the course of the presidents we had in the past!
