  1. Signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UGC and British Council Internationalizing Higher Education (IHE) and Knowledge Exchange Initiatives in the Higher Education Sector of Bangladesh Signed on October 3, 2011

  2. Knowledge Exchange (KEx) Initiatives for IHE in Bangladesh • Collaborative Activities in different areas were held as follows; • A. Regional Policy Dialogue (RPD) • A Regional Policy Dialogue: Building Bridges between Universities and Communities • Held in Ruposhi Bangla Hotel on 7 & 8 December, 2011 • No. of Participants: 38 (27 local and 11 from India, Malaysia, UK, Afghanistan, Hong Kong and Pakistan). • Participants were senior policy makers, representatives from Ministry of Education, PM Office, VCs and Pro-VCs from Public and Private Universities, Deans, Representatives from Corporate sectors, Industries etc.)

  3. Knowledge Exchange (KEx) Initiatives for IHE in Bangladesh • B. The RPD was followed by Bangladesh Policy Dialogue (BPD) • Held in Ruposhi Bangla Hotel on 9 December, 2011. • Participants: 54 (VCs and Deans from Public and Private Universities, Academia, Researchers, Representatives from Government and Non-Government agencies etc.)

  4. Knowledge Exchange (KEx) Initiatives for IHE in Bangladesh • C. Challenge Fund Generating for KEx • Name of the Fund: Internationalizing Higher Education Challenge Fund - A 4-member Finance Committee was formed to supervise and monitor the fund. • A Current account was opened on 23.11.2011. • Indicative budget: 3,00,000 GBP. • Contribution: BC 59%, UGC 25% and Other Sponsors 16%. • Tk. 63, 62,880.00 (Sixty Three Lac Sixty Two Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty Only) was collected by UGC up to 11.03.2012. • Fund received from HEQEP, Public and Private Universities, Pharmaceutical Companies, Industries and Banks.

Going Global (GG-6) - 2012 • Conference in London, UK on 13-15 March, 2012 • Participants: 7 Member delegations from • Bangladesh, headed by Chairman, UGC. • Paper presented by Prof. A K. Azad Chowdhury, • Chairman, UGC, Titled- Changing Education for a • Changing World.

  6. Knowledge Exchange (KEx) Initiatives for IHE in Bangladesh • E. KEx Partnership Grants- University Community Engagement • Program • Participants 8 Departments (for instance- Pharmacy, Journalism • and Mass communication, Sociology, English, Geography, • Education etc.) of 4 Universities (DU, RU, BAU &) JnU). • Around 500 students will be involved. • 2-Week field work. • The BC Grant: Tk. 39,00,000.00 (Thirty Nine Lac Only), Collected • April, 2012. • Bangladesh Team: Coordinator:- Prof. Dr. A K Azad Chowdhury, • Chairman (State Minister), UGC, and UK Team Coordinator:- • Prof. Dr. Barry Winn, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Bradford • University, UK. • An introductory meeting was held on April 26, 2012, Presided by • Professor Dr. Abul Hashem, Member, UGC. • Project proposals received from 8 Departments of 4 Universities. • A Review meeting was held at UGC on May 31, 2012.

  7. English for Higher Education in Bangladesh • Open University, UK won the bid for module development work to be assisted by a group of local consultant. • Nominated institutions: 13 institutions (10 • Universities - DU, CU, RU, JU, BUET, SUST, • BAU, State Univ., ULAB, & AIUB, 3 Colleges-Ananda Mohan College, M.C College & Rajshahi Govt. College,) • Need Analysis Survey: July1-18, 2012 • Deadline for submission of interest: June 3, 2012 • Briefing Workshop: 28 June, 2012 at UGC

Leadership Activities • Exploratory Workshop: Strengthening Leadership Capacity in Higher Education • Objective: To discuss and develop leadership mentoring program for the promising and potential leaders. • Held on 22 and 23 January, 2012, Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, • Dhaka • Consultant: Dr Williams Hank, UK • Participants: 17 (Including UGC Chairman, Members, • VCs and Deans from Public and Private Universities, • Academia, Researchers, Government and Non- • Government agencies)

  9. Leadership Activities • 18-Month long Leadership Mentoring Program • Workshop-1 Strengthening Leadership Capacity in Higher • Education • Held on 3, 4. & 5 May, 2012 • 23 nominated potential leaders from different Private and • Public Universities. • Workshop-2 (Up Coming Program) • Date: 21, 22 & 23 June, 2012 • Workshop between UK Mentors and Bangladesh participants.
