  1. TESTING OF POT BEARINGS AS PER IRC : 83 ( PART III ) - 2002 VERTICAL LOAD TEST ( COMMON FOR ALL TYPE OF POT / PTFE BEARINGS ) B. ROTATION TEST ( COMMON FOR ALL TYPE OF POT / PTFE BEARINGS ) C. CO-EFFICIENT OF FRICTION TEST ( ONLY FOR SLIDING POT / PTFE BEARINGS )

  2. HYDRAULIC TEST PRESS : 750 MT CAPACITY

  3. VERTICAL LOAD TEST : ( COMMON FOR ALL TYPE OF POT / PTFE BEARINGS ) • A randomly selected bearing is placed centrally inside the Vertical Test Press. Vertical load is then applied gradually at a constant rate up to a value of 1.25 times of the design vertical load. This load is held constant for period of not less than 30 minutes. 4 Dial gauges are placed at 4 corners for the deflection. After giving the test load note down the deflections. After 30 minutes again note down the dial gauge reading (deflection). The vertical load is then removed. After test is completed, the tested bearings are removed from the test machine, dismantled and are examined for any signs of distress, warping, scoring or other permanent defects which may affect the serviceability or durability of the bearing. The sustained deflection should be less than 4% of elastomeric pad thickness.

  4. VERTICAL LOAD TEST : ( COMMON FOR ALL TYPE OF POT / PTFE BEARINGS )

  5. ROTATION TEST : ( COMMON FOR ALL TYPE OF POT / PTFE BEARINGS ) • A randomly selected bearing is centrally placed in the vertical test press and a rotation equal to or higher than the nominated serviceability rotation is applied using a tapered plate (prefabricated to give the required rotation) placed on the bearing. The bearing is then vertically loaded equal to the maximum vertical serviceability load nominated. The vertical load is then removed.

  6. ROTATION TEST : ( COMMON FOR ALL TYPE OF POT / PTFE BEARINGS )

  7. ROTATION TEST : ( COMMON FOR ALL TYPE OF POT / PTFE BEARINGS )

  8. CO-EFFICIENT OF FRICTION TEST :( ONLY FOR SLIDING POT / PTFE BEARINGS ) • A randomly selected pair of sliding bearings is oriented such that the top plate is free to move in the direction of the horizontal force. The horizontal load is then applied gradually with the vertical load held constant at the maximum vertical (design) load , the horizontal force is applied by horizontal jack to the top plate of the bearing. When the top plates begin to slide the magnitude of the horizontal force is recorded. Four consecutive readings are taken to obtain an average value. The average horizontal force required for movement is divided by 2 , this value is then divided by the vertical load to obtain the co-efficient of friction .The horizontal load first and then the vertical load is removed.

  9. CO-EFFICIENT OF FRICTION TEST :( ONLY FOR SLIDING POT / PTFE BEARINGS )

  10. CO-EFFICIENT OF FRICTION TEST :( ONLY FOR SLIDING POT / PTFE BEARINGS )

  11. CO-EFFICIENT OF FRICTION TEST :( ONLY FOR SLIDING POT / PTFE BEARINGS )

  12. EXAMINATION OF TESTED BEARINGS : • After test have been completed , the tested bearings are removed from the test machine , dismantled and are examined for any signs of distress , scoring or other permanent defects which may affect the serviceability or durability of the bearings.

  13. INSPECTION OF FINISHED BEARING : • The overall dimensions of any finished bearing shall not exceed the following tolerance limits : • Plan dimension of bearing : -0.0 mm to +5.0 mm • Overall Height of assembled bearing : -0.0 to +3.0 mm • Thickness of Elastomeric Pad : -0.0% to 5.0% • Thickness of any machined steel component : -0.0 to +1.0 mm
