  2. Italian Project Goal • Italy needs a large reduction in the CO2 emissions • Severe commitment between 2008-2012 (about 40x106 tons CO2/year) • Italy is planning to buy credits on the market, possibly through CDM project implementation

  3. Climate Change Related Projects The action of the Italian Ministry of Environment is focusing on the following sectors: • Energy Efficiency • Energy Production from Renewable Energy • GHG Monitoring and Inventory within the Clean Development Mechanism framework

  4. Municipal Energy Planning Suzhou, Taiyuan e Jinan • Scope of the work: • Energy investigation and analysis in the three municipality of Jinan, Taiyuan and Suzhou • Identification of energy saving opportunities in 9 industrial sites • Implementation period: • June 2002 – May 2004

  5. Energy Efficiency Taiyuan • Scope of the work: • Energy Auditing • Capacity Building and • Investment/Development Guideline • Industry Energy Efficiency Projects • Municipality of Taiyuan • Implementation period: • May 2005 – November 2006

  6. Energy Efficiency Sino-Italian Web Portal • Scope of the work: • development of a Sino-Italian web portal on energy efficiency in China • Implementation period: • January 2005 – June 2006

Scope of the work: Energy investigation of the main energy users in the Municipality Identification of feasible interventions to optimize energy use Period of implementation: September 2004 – March 2005 (assessment) February 2006 – December 2006 (Double Coin Plant) Energy Efficiency in Shanghai Municipality

Landfill Gas Recovery - China • Scope of the work: • Technical and economical feasibility study for the landfill biogas recovery and utilization to generate electricity • Pilot plants installation and operation (CDM CERs) • Period of Implementation: • Phase 1: January 2004 – June 2005 • Phase 2: June 2005 - ongoing

Yinchuan LFG Plant - Ningxia Total Landfill Volume = 6,750,000 m3 Waste load rate = 500 tons/day (to become 1,000 tons/day) Power Installed = up to 6 MW Electric Power generation = about 600 GWh/year in 20 years GHG Reduction = 3.2x106 tons CO2eq Investment = 8 Mln Euro Period of Implementation: December 2004 – ongoing (construction early 2007)

  12. Landfill Gas Recovery - Tianjin • Scope of the work: • Technical and economical feasibility study for the landfill biogas recovery and utilization to generate electricity • CDM framework • Period of implementation: • January 2006 – September 2006

Pingjipu Cattle Farm - Ningxia Total Livestock = 18,000 cows Waste load rate = 73,000 tons/year of solid manure Power Installed = 760 KW (1st module) Electric Power generation = 9,800 MWh/year (1st module) GHG Reduction = 28,000tons CO2eq / year Investment = 4 Mln Euro Period of Implementation: December 2004 – ongoing (construction early 2007)

  14. Biogas Recovery – ShunYi District • Scope of the work: • Technical and economical feasibility study for the biogas recovery and utilization to generate electricity from pig manure • Period: • December 2005-December 2006 (design and CDM procedure)

  15. Biogas Recovery – Lohoe (Henan) • Scope of the work: • Technical and economical feasibility study for the biogas recovery and utilization to generate electricity from pig manure • CDM credits generation • Period: • January 2004 – ongoing (construction starts in 2006)

Intelligent Transport System and Traffic Air Pollution in Beijing • Scope of the work: • Pilot Area of Beijing • Intelligent Transport Module • Air Quality Monitoring Module • Traffic Monitoring Module • Transport Planning Module • Period of implementation: • June 2003 – June 2004 (design and tender) • July 2004 – ongoing (implementation)

  17. Sustainable Development (Energy and Mobility) – Chongming Island Scope of the work: • Chongming Island (in front of Shanghai) • In ccoperation with the Shanghai Municipality • Urban planning for a sustainable development (mobility) • Period: January 2005 - ongoing

  18. GHGs Emission Inventory Lanzhou Municipality • Scope of the Work: • Definition of the Technical Specifications for the Emission Inventory • Elaboration of the Emission Inventory • Implementation Period: • October 2004 - July 2006
