  2. I am dangerous to myself and/or others when I ………..

  3. It’s not them…………….. It’s US……………

  4. Typically we ask, “What’s the likelihood it will happen to me?” Defining risk should ask Usually our answer is “Not likely!” “What’s the likelihood it will happen?”

  5. Risk Tolerance Most injuries and incidents are the result of people’s natural tolerance of risk. • Unaware • Complacent • Thrill

  6. Insert Picture of baby walking down stairs, etc.

  7. A Culture Beyond Safety In a culture Beyond Safety, each of us consciously chooses our attitude toward safety. To reduce injuries, consciously and purposefully decide how you are not going to get hurt.

  8. Level 4 I believe in safety for myself and actively encourage others to believe in safety. Level 3 I believe in safety for my family and me. Level 2 Level 1 I comply with safety because I have to. I comply with safety … when it’s convenient. Safety is OUR Choice ! Believe Comply

  9. Remember … To build a strong safety culture, consciously consider what your actions demonstrate, reward and tolerate.

  10. Creating a Culture Beyond Safety To create a culture Beyond Safety through what you demonstrate personally: • Consciously choose to be aware of safety • Purposefully decide how not to get hurt by asking yourself: • What am I doing? • What might be hazardous about what I’m doing? • What can I do to reduce those hazards?

  11. What am I doing? What might be hazardous about what I’m doing? What can I do to reduce those hazards?

  12. Remember … My own natural risk tolerance lets me bypass the risk assessment conversation I have in my head. It lets me ignore the potential consequences of my at-risk behaviors.

  13. Creating a Culture Beyond Safety To create a culture Beyond Safety through what you encourage and discourage in others, Remember, feedback is our tool for reminding each other when our behaviors impact safety.

  14. What do you see? What might be hazardous about what you see? What needs to happen to reduce those hazards?

  15. Remember … Our risk tolerance lets us talk ourselves out of having conversations with others.

  16. Drive Drive Beliefs Beliefs and behaviors passed down from one generation to the next. Behaviors Results

  17. Feedback is the tool our teammates have for reminding us: • What behaviors keep us safe • When our at-risk behaviors impact safety

  18. What is “feedback”? Feedback is “speaking up”. It’s simply providing information on how you view a situation.

  19. Step 1 Observe. Step 2 Accentuate the positive. Explore – Ask questions. Step 3 Step 4 Emphasize the consequences. Step 5 Agree on future actions. Conversations

  20. Conversations In a Beyond Safety Culture, personal accountability is ingrained through teammates providing teammates feedback on: • What behaviors keep us safe • When at-risk behaviors impact safety

  21. Safety is about people. Safety is about good business. Safety is about regulatory compliance (and court!) The Cost of At-risk Behaviors “A safe organization is a productive organization and a productive organization is a safe organization.”

  22. Hundred years video.
