  1. Bellwork • Name the four steps to explicating a poem • Read the poem until you understand it • Identify poetic devices/figurative language • TPCASTT/SOAPSTone • Identify the theme of the poem *think about the author’s purpose*

  2. Poetry Slam Project You will create and present your poem to the class with an innovative poster

  3. Assignment: • You must first read, analyze, and interpret (torture) your poem in order to fully understand it. • Your poster should include TPCASTT & SOAPStone analysis as well as details highlighting poetic devices in your poem (figurative language, alliteration, onomatopoeia, allusion, rhythm, rhyme, etc.). Don’t forget to answer the “So What?” question! • You can paint, color, or use collage to illustrate the imagery in the poem of your choice. • Be sure to copy the poem exactly as it appears, including the title and poet.

Anything Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, Maya Angelou 9. Use the poem you found for “loss”

  5. Poetry Slam Poster • Printed copy of your poem with poetic devices labeled • TPCASTT • SOAPSTone • Artwork to accompany the poem’s imagery • Theme needs to be clearly written on the bottom of the poster
